About us

Southern Spirit Singers is an award-winning chamber choir, founded in 2015 by conductor Andy King. The choir rehearses in London once a month, with Andy and assistant conductor, Jonathan Davies. Singers travel from around the UK to take part. The choir aims to perform the very highest standards of choral music in a relaxed and fun environment.   

Founded as an alumni choir of Northern Spirit Singers (UK Adult Choir of the Year 2014) they have rapidly built their own reputation for world class choral singing. The choir has a wide-ranging repertoire – from traditional sacred music to modern, contemporary compositions, popular arrangements and music from around the world. Their debut album “First Light”, featuring 21st-century works, was released in November 2022. 

The choir performs regular concerts in London and the South East, as well as touring regularly, with recent trips to Spain, Latvia, Estonia and Sweden, as well as UK performances in Cambridge, Durham Ashbourne, Haworth, Hull, and at the Llangollen Eisteddfod.

In addition to its regular concert schedule, the choir enjoys taking part in festivals and competitions in the UK and abroad. The choir took part in London Oriana Choir’s Women Composer Festival at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in July 2023, and held a joint anniversary concert in Durham in 2025 with Northern Spirit Singers. They have featured on Latvian national radio’s main cultural programme and in several UK classical music press articles. During the COVID-19 pandemic they released three virtual choir videos, and entered the very first World Virtual Choir competition.

They are delighted to be multiple gold medalists in international competitions, including the European Choir Games and Grand Prix of Nations in Gothenburg in 2019, and Sing for Gold, Barcelona in 2024, as well as overall winners of the Sacred Music category at Hull International Choir Competition in 2023.
